New Zealand holds national earthquake drill ShakeOut 2026 as hundreds of thousands practise Drop, Cover and Hold
On Wednesday, communities, schools and businesses across New Zealand took part in ShakeOut 2026, the country’s national earthquake preparedness drill and tsunami hīkoi. The one minute Drop, Cover and Hold exercise is designed to make life saving actions automatic and to test local evacuation planning in tsunami zones.
