
Draft Digital Duty of Care would let Australia’s eSafety office run anonymous online accounts and generate AI content, sparking fresh outcry
An exposure draft of Australia’s Online Safety Amendment includes a provision authorising the eSafety Commissioner and approved researchers to create so called sock puppet identities, including AI generated accounts, to observe, interact and post on online services. The clause has prompted renewed concern from civil liberties groups, legal analysts and social commentators about unchecked state use of covert accounts.
