The Metro Manila Film Festival has confirmed the final four titles that join this year’s Magic 8, completing the official lineup for the 52nd edition of the annual Philippine film festival.
Final four announced at Shangri-La Plaza
Festival organisers revealed the additional entries on October 12 at a launch event held at Shangri-La Plaza in Mandaluyong City. The new selections are Los Salvajes Bravos, Little Hope, Seeds of Peace: The Life of Father Rhoel D. Gallardo, CMF, and A Perfect Marriage.
Those films join four titles that were announced earlier this year, bringing the full roster to eight films that will screen in cinemas across the Philippines as part of the MMFF run from December 25, 2026 through January 7, 2027.
What the newly announced films are and who is in them
Los Salvajes Bravos is described as a historical drama directed by Paolo Dy, with Ruru Madrid and Romnick Sarmenta among the principal cast. Little Hope is a family drama written and directed by Benedict Mique, headlined by Yassi Pressman and Pepe Herrera. Seeds of Peace, billed as a biographical documentary about the life and ministry of Father Rhoel D. Gallardo, CMF, will be directed by Rommel Galapia Ruiz and features Zaijian Jaranilla and Ping Medina. A Perfect Marriage is a romantic drama directed by Dan Villegas starring Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino.
Festival organisers said the four complete the Magic 8 after the earlier batch announced in July, which included Second Miracle in Cell No. 7, Amir, Haunted Carnival, and The Greatest Showdown.
Parade, awards night and ticketing updates
Organisers also confirmed plans for festival events tied to the December run. For the first time this year, the Parade of Stars will take place in two locations: a parade in Bacolod City on December 12, followed by a joint Metro Manila parade hosted by San Juan City and Mandaluyong City on December 18. The festivals awards night, Gabi ng Parangal, is scheduled for December 2. The organisers reiterated that movie ticket prices for the festival run will be capped at P299, a measure intended to make the festival more accessible to wider audiences during the Christmas season.
Why the announcement matters
The MMFF is the Philippines largest annual local film showcase and traditionally commands strong box office interest during the Christmas period. Completing the Magic 8 is a key milestone because the selection determines the films that will benefit from exclusive nationwide theatrical exhibition during the festival window. The mix announced this year combines commercial star vehicles, a historical drama, and a documentary about a recent Philippine martyr, indicating the festival will again offer a broad range of genres and tones for holiday audiences.
The inclusion of several high profile performers, plus the two-city Parade of Stars plan, shows organisers are aiming both to boost regional participation outside Metro Manila and to attract national audiences back into cinemas after the years mainstream and festival releases.
What to watch for next
With the Magic 8 now public, attention will turn to promotional campaigns, release strategies from the producers, and the festivals screening schedule. Filmmakers and distributors typically roll out trailers, poster campaigns, and media appearances in the weeks before the December opening. The capped ticket price and the split-parade plan are likely to shape box office dynamics and audience turnout, particularly in regions hosting festival events.
The MMFF selection completes the formal festival roster, but further announcements from producers about premieres, cast appearances, and festival-side events are expected in the coming weeks ahead of the December 25 opening.
